WorldDipCon XIV

Introduction and History

The father of WDC is Richard Walkerdine, of the UK. He was the first person to verbalize the idea of a "World Diplomacy Championship" event to the national hobbies and the first person to work at getting people together for an international Diplomacy event. The mother of WDC is ManorCon. During the first half of 1988, Richard promoted the idea and the event by inviting anybody and everybody he could to come to that summer’s ManorCon.

And so, during the summer of 1988, the world’s first WDC was held at ManorCon, attracting many players from Europe, the United States and Australia. Somewhere along the way there was agreement that a second such event should be held two years later in North America, and a third two years after that in Australia. Then, two years after that, all would return to ManorCon for WDC IV and decide what to do next. And so it happened and WDC was born. Since 1994, WDC has been an annual event and has travelled the globe with many outstanding hosts.

And now it is time for WDC to return to its place of birth, back to ManorCon. WDC XIV will be at ManorCon XXII on 16th to 19th July 2004.
